6-year-old Junior was born with a complex brain disorder and has spent a lot of his life in hospital. Hear from Junior’s Mum, Karen, about her son’s hospital journey and how your donations have helped him.

Junior's Time in Hospital

When Junior was born in June 2018, it was quickly discovered that he was suffering from unexplained seizures, and therefore required immediate care from the neurology team at the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow. After thorough tests, the team found he had Tubulinopathy- a rare brain disorder.

Junior’s mum Karen, has told us,

“With this disorder he has a lot of complex needs and has spent and will spend a lot of time in hospital as an inpatient and an outpatient.”

Junior was initially under the care of Neurology; however, he has also had lengthy hospital stays on other wards due to the complex nature of his condition.

“I’m so grateful to all of the Nurses and Play Team members in the Clinical Decision Unit, and Wards 2C, 3A and 3C who have helped look after Junior.”

“Junior loves listening and feeling the atmosphere when at the hospital MediCinema, and spending time with the Play Team. He has also enjoyed meeting the Celtic Men’s Team, Caledonia Gladiators’ Women’s Team, Glasgow Warrior players, Darth Vadar, Anna and Elsa.”

Karen says Junior’s favourite film he’s experienced in MediCinema was Home Alone at a special Christmas screening.

None of these experiences would be possible without your generous donations. Our wonderful Play Team work tirelessly entertaining, distracting and relaxing young patients of all ages - helping to make their time in hospital less worrying and more enjoyable. Thanks to your donations, we can facilitate fun activities for patients like Junior as part of our charity-funded Play Programme.

That’s why Junior’s parents, Karen and James, have decided to take on our 106 Miles in June Challenge.
