Ring Bearer Rory Steals the Show!

21 June 2023 RORY RING BEARER

After undergoing life-saving heart surgery as a baby, 8-year-old Rory is now thriving and recently stole the show as the Ring Bearer at his parents' wedding. Hear Rory's story in the words of his Mum, Chloe.

Birth

'Our son Rory was born on the 30th of July 2015, weighing a very healthy 8lb 13oz.'

'After around 6 hours, a nurse on the ward noticed Rory has some blue tinges about his face and feet so they advised that he be taken down for a closer check.'

'A short while later, we received the devastating news that Rory was born with Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA), a serious, rare heart problem in which the two main arteries leaving the heart are reversed.'

'He was then immediately transported to Glasgow children's hospital.'

Surgery

'Rory spent 11 days on the ward before having his life changing surgery on the 10th of August.'

Rory 1'Thankfully the operation went well and from that day on, Rory has done nothing but thrive!'

Chloe, RORY'S MUM

'He grew stronger and stronger each day and by the end of the week, we were able to take him home!'

RORY 2'For the first few weeks after surgery, Rory had daily check-ups from midwifes and nurses who helped ensure his wound from the surgery was clean, and that he was coping OK with being out of hospital.'

'He had regular check-ups back in Glasgow for the first year of his life and then yearly check-ups after that.'

'Now aged eight, Rory only attends the hospital once every two years for a check-up.'

'Luckily, he has never suffered any complications or side affects after his surgery.'

Charity Support

'Since Rory's stay within the hospital, we have completed five Kiltwalks to help raise funds for Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity.'

RORY KW

'Without the work of the charity, doctors, nurses and all staff within the hospital, we may not have Rory with us today. We are eternally grateful for the care and support we were given during our visit, making those first three weeks of his life a little easier to deal with.'

Chloe, rory's mum

'Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity is very important to our whole family, which is why we will continue to support and raise money for them.'

'The Ronald McDonald charity house was also a huge help to us during Rory's time in hospital, as it gave us somewhere to unwind after a difficult day on the ward.'

Ring Bearer Rory

'At our wedding in May, Rory was our Page Boy and Ring Bearer.'
