Sporting heroes make dreams come true
Each year, we're delighted to welcome sporting heroes from clubs across the city to meet some of our young patients at the children's hospital.
Some patients, particularly those who are in for long stays can become bored and in need of a little pick me up while in hospital. Visits from some of their top sporting stars is just one of the ways we try to make hospital as fun as possible throughout the festive period.
Find out who joined us in December for a festive visit...
Celtic FC
We welcomed our friends from CELTIC FC Foundation, the charitable arm of Celtic Football Club for their annual visit with the first squad team.
As well as the team delighting many young fans, Celtic FC Foundation generously donated £10,000 during their visit.
The donation made will help to fund Christmas gifts for children living with long-term health conditions and provide support for some parents, carers and grandparents who may struggle to provide the basic items that they require during a hospital stay.
Rangers FC
The full Rangers FC first squad also joined us for their annual special visit which was a wonderful surprise for our young patients, including top fan Christopher here who met one of his heroes.
Rangers FC Foundaton also generously donated £10,000 which has funded decorations for the wards to help bring some Christmas magic to the hospital, as well as the screening of films throughout the month of December in the hospital’s MediCinema.
Glasgow Warriors
The Glasgow Warriors brought lots of festive cheer to the children's hospital this month. As well as challenging our young patients to some of their favourite games, the squad handed out flags and calendars ahead of Christmas time.
Glasgow Clan
Every year, the kind-hearted ice hockey team from Glasgow Clan host an event called 'Air the Bear' at their local ice hockey rink at Braehead Shopping Centre. Spectators have the chance to throw bears into the rink (wrapped up safely for their flight) which are then donated to our Teddy Bear Hospital at the Royal Hospital for Children.
The team also took time out to visit our young patients with their teddy bears and put smiles on lots of faces this Christmas.
