Marion's Lasting Legacy
We were delighted to welcome Maureen Ritchie and Kirstin Callaghan, Trustees of Marion’s Still Smiling to the hospital for a very special visit.
As many of our supporters will remember, Marion’s Still Smiling helped to kick start our fundraising appeal for the Schiehallion Clinical Trials Centre back in June 2017, with a massive donation of £50,000 raised from their tireless fundraising efforts in memory of much loved, Marion Callaghan from Ayrshire.
Maureen and Kirstin visited the Schiehallion Ward this week to officially unveil a special plaque in memory of Marion, and the wonderful contribution that Marion’s Still Smiling have made to the Schiehallion Clinical Trials Centre.
Marion’s Still Smiling have worked for a number of years with NHS Ayrshire and Arran, helping to provide short breaks and treats for patients affected by a cancer diagnosis.
Unfortunately, the Callaghan family know first-hand the crippling effects that a cancer diagnosis can have upon a family, and since Marion’s sad passing, have worked tirelessly to raise the funds needed to support other families who find themselves in this difficult position, helping them to create lasting and precious memories together.
The fundraising efforts of Marion’s Still Smiling are far and wide, and the group who are all volunteers, organise a range of events throughout the year including their annual Ball and It’s A Knock Out. The support that the Foundation has received from the Ayrshire community has been simply incredible, and they couldn’t continue to support the number of families that they do each year without this fantastic support.
We are delighted to announce that Marion’s Still Smiling have pledged to continue to support the children and families of the Schiehallion Ward and are now working in partnership with Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity to help fund short breaks and treats for patients on the Schiehallion Ward, on an annual basis.
The ongoing support of Marion’s Still Smiling is simply incredible and we would like to thank their Trustees, and all who have supported them throughout the years.
We are delighted to be working in partnership with Marion’s Still Smiling, and know the benefit that these short breaks and treats will bring to so many families who are affected by a cancer diagnosis.
We are delighted to say that thanks to a recent donation of £5,000, the Nasim family, whose daughter Anisa is treated in the Schiehallion Ward have already benefited from a special break away to Butlins. The family greatly enjoyed the break and some real quality time together as a family.
This very special donation will also enable lots of other breaks and treats to be arranged over the coming months.
A big thank you to everyone involved with Marion’s Still Smiling.
